Summit Medical Group Arizona Continues to Grow in The Valley

Adds Endocrinology Services to Its Integrated Care Model and Two Primary Care Physicians

GLENDALE, AZ, SEPTEMBER 19, 2019 – Furthering its commitment to deliver high-quality, coordinated medical care to the residents of the Valley, Summit Medical Group Arizona (SMGAZ) announced today the addition of two primary care physicians in Phoenix and an endocrinology specialist in Glendale.

“The face of medicine is changing all the time,” said Kent M. Johnson, MD, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician and Chief Physician Executive. “Our new internal medicine physicians, Dr. Kenneth Merchant and Dr. Emil Slovak, and our new endocrinologist, Dr. Kristin Hanson, will focus on providing the most advanced medical treatments and services to all our patients.”

The integration of endocrinology complements the existing specialists and multispecialty providers at SMGAZ.  Endocrinology is the medical specialty dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Dr. Hanson provides a full spectrum of adult endocrine services, including thyroid ultrasound and needle biopsy services, with a special interest in diabetic care.

Dr. Hanson earned her medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine.  She served her internship and residency at Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center/Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona. She is located at SMGAZ’s new endocrinology office at 5620 W. Thunderbird Road, Suite F, in Glendale.

“I am pleased to have this opportunity to initiate endocrinology services and support clinical and patient care at Summit Medical Group Arizona,” Dr. Hanson said. “It’s a privilege to work with an outstanding group of providers and staff. I'm looking forward to advocating for all our patients we serve.”

Dr. Merchant, one of SMGAZ’s two new internists, earned his Doctor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Dr. Merchant provides exceptional patient care that incorporates the specialties of internal medicine, and pediatrics.

“I am excited to join Summit Medical Group Arizona,” says Dr. Merchant. “I value my relationship with my patients and I’m always honest with them. I will always provide my patients with a comprehensive treatment plan that best fits their health care needs.”  He is located at 5620 W. Thunderbird Rd., Suite C, in Glendale.

Dr. Slovak is board certified in internal medicine and has close to 30 years of experience in primary care, urgent care, occupational care, and hospital settings. He provides general health services, including physical exams, sick visits, disease management, pain management, and minor in-office procedures and surgeries.

“I really enjoy the family atmosphere at Summit Medical Group Arizona and the personalized care they provide to the community. I think the care and comfort a patient receives plays a big part in the healing process,” states Dr. Slovak. He provides services at 9150 W. Indian School Rd., Suite 118 in
Phoenix.

“With the addition of these new providers and the endocrinology service line, we can now better serve the health care needs of our community.” said Dr. Johnson.
