Joy D. Marvin, MD, MPH, FACS, is a member of Summit Medical Group Arizona’s General Surgery team. Dr. Marvin performs general surgery in adult patients, including most abdominal procedures such as hernia repair, gallbladder, and colon procedures. She also has extensive experience in breast surgery, colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. Dr. Marvin takes pride in simplifying complicated medical concepts for her patients so they can fully understand their condition and course of treatment. She says, “I understand the uneasy feelings that surgery breeds. It can be very scary and because of that, I do all I can to educate my patients and increase their comfort levels.”
Dr. Marvin’s passion for medicine began early in life. As a child, she was inspired by stories shared by family friends about their international hospital mission trips. Her interest in the field further developed during high school while working in an operating room as an anesthesia technician. Now, as a practicing surgeon, Dr. Marvin delights in being able to contribute to an ill patient’s return to health. “There’s no greater feeling than getting someone back to their life and their family, happier and healthier than when they came to you,” she says.
Dr. Marvin is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Outside of her field, she loves traveling, painting, cooking, gardening, playing piano, spending time with friends and family and enjoying her two Siamese cats.
