- Certified Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
John Hammonds, CRNP is a nurse practitioner on Summit Medical Group Arizona’s Internal Medicine team. Mr. Hammonds delivers medical treatment and primary, acute, and specialty health care to adults 18 years and older. He has additional training in caring for the geriatric population through adult gerontology primary care. From a young age, Mr. Hammonds was taught to help others. He credits his parents for being the best examples of this and instilling that trait in him. “A career in health care is the best way to help the most people and do the most good,” says Mr. Hammonds.
Before joining SMGAZ, Mr. Hammonds spent over ten years as a bedside nurse in emergency medicine and two years in critical care. Experience in these urgent care settings alerted him to the desperate need for accessible primary care that could prevent some of these emergency visits and hospital admissions. From there, he decided to pursue a career in Internal Medicine.
In addition to internal medicine and geriatric care, Mr. Hammonds has deep interest in Alzheimer’s and dementia research. He is closely connected to these diseases through family history (both grandmothers) and hopes that one day there will be improved treatment and possibly even a cure.
In his off time, Mr. Hammonds enjoys traveling, and attending sporting events and concerts.
